I build useful products and help engineering teams ship them well.

I'm a software engineer based in the West Midlands, UK, with over 25 years' experience across mobile, web and backend development. My strongest areas are React Native, React and TypeScript, but I enjoy getting involved across the stack when it helps a project move forward.

Over the past few years at Pexels (part of Canva), I've worked on customer-facing features, helped improve the mobile app and taken on the less visible engineering work that makes a difference to a whole team: build and release tooling, documentation, onboarding and practical AI-assisted workflows.

I like working with people who care about what they're building, enjoy sharing ideas and aren't afraid to challenge assumptions. I'm happiest staying hands-on, finding sensible solutions to difficult problems and helping other engineers do their best work.

A few things I've worked on

Making uploads more reliable

Helped lead a redesign of the Pexels mobile upload flow. Successful uploads increased by 102% on Android and 11% on iOS following the changes.

Making mobile development easier for everyone

Opened up a previously specialist React Native codebase to a team of around 12 engineers through pairing, walkthroughs and better documentation. I also designed a more reliable mobile build and release workflow, with median PR lead time falling by roughly 50%.

Finding practical uses for AI

Built reusable AI-assisted development workflows to help with implementation, reviews, dependencies and reporting — with engineers still responsible for understanding and checking the work.

What I'm interested in next

I'm exploring Senior Software Engineer and Product Engineer opportunities, as well as selected Staff-level roles where my experience is a good fit.

I'm especially interested in teams building useful products, with a collaborative culture and room to influence technical decisions while staying close to the code.

I'm based in the West Midlands and prefer remote-first work, but I'm open to sensible hybrid arrangements.
